A Gulag Online virtuális múzeum a szovjet megtorlás alapvető megnyilvánulási formáit és nagyságrendjét mutatja be, mindezt a Gulág-tábor virtuális rekonstrukciója, konkrét emberi sorsok, tárgyak, dokumentumok, szövegek stb. alapján. Igyekeztünk reprezentatív módon kiválasztani a legfontosabb információkat, hiszen nem az volt a célunk, hogy átfogó képet nyújtsunk a szovjet elnyomó rendszer minden borzalmáról, hanem hogy a mindennapokat érintő tragikus valóság legapróbb részleteit idézzük fel minél élethűbben.
